Update: I Made it to the Highly Qualified stage

I have received confirmation that my references received letters (and in at least one case also a phone call) from NASA regarding my astronaut application. This means I made it to the "Highly Qualified" round (top 450 applicants)! Below you can see the letter I received from NASA this week asking me to get a medical exam. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that I make it to the next interview stage.

Hello Brian, this is my first post. I applied also to the program, but no one has contacted me in months! I'm still hoping and praying that I will be selected. The last thing I did in college was a certificate program in radar about 2 and 1/2 years ago. I have 3 MS degrees and 2 bachelor degrees. I'm very athletic as you appear to be. For over 10 years, my exercise routine has involved splitting my routine over 4 days. I also jog, but do not compete. The only flight experience that I have are the ASA and King school ground school DVDs etc. I'm employeed by Boeing and they woun't pay for a lot of the cost of getting a private license. The ground school DVDs make me feel that I would enjoy flying, but as you know it's a costly affair. My hobby in life is trying to live to reach 120. One of my favorite books is called "Fantastic Voyage" by Ray Kurzweil and Terry Grossman. I have over a 700 book library. I own a copy of "Adrift" by Steven Callahan but haven't had the opportunity to read it. One of these days, I'm going to buy all those DVDs at www.survival.com. My name is on one of the rover CDs on Mars, and on Dawn. Who-Boo, I'm also 52 years old.

Congrats Brian - very cool blog with lots of good info - thanks! I got an e-mail from Gomez in October asking about my military status... I guess since I ended up staying in, I'm not eligible this time around. Next time! Best of luck to you - I look forward to working with you at NASA some day!

Congratulations! I'm awaiting my rejection letter (it's the first time I've ever met the minimum requirements, and just getting my master's degree- in progress now!). I've found all your astronaut information helpful, keep up the updates and goodluck.

Interesting. In the astronaut selection process for the European Space Agency they ask you for this medical certificate right from the very beginning. If you don't have it, you can't send the application.
